Review.

The Girl On The Train is a tense, psychological thriller based on Paula Hawkins' best-selling novel of the same name.

The film revolves around three female leads - Rachel (Emily Blunt), Anna (Rebecca Ferguson) and Megan (Hayley Bennett) - and director, Tate Taylor shuffles back and forth between past and present time frames to expose the interconnected storyline.

Whilst the latter characters lack dimension - the normally appealing Ferguson, in particular, fails to bring any emotion to the lethargic Anna - Blunt's portrayal of the functioning alcoholic is impressive. Bleary-eyed, blotchy complexion and slurred dialogue all contribute to an unreliable narrator and increasingly fractured voyeur.

Obvious comparisons can be made with David Fincher's Gone Girl, Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window and Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon, and although The Girl On The Train isn't as polished as its contemporaries, it remains a solid enough offering.
