As the Bravo Alfredo blog celebrates its fourth anniversary, I reflect on the 75 films I have watched, and reviewed, this year.
Below is the list of the Top 10 films I have watched this year.
- Raiders Of The Lost Ark (85%)
- The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (82%)
- There Will Be Blood (82%)
- Blood Simple (81%)
- The Shining (81%)
- The Thing (81%)
- For A Few Dollars More (80%)
- Tár (80%)
- Thief (80%)
- Almost Famous (79%)
Raiders Of The Lost Ark tops the list. Inspired by the forgotten B-serials and comics of his youth, with Raiders Of The Lost Ark Steven Spielberg managed to create "...a deliriously entertaining throwback that remains pure, unadulterated pleasure."
I embarked on a rewatch of Sergio Leone's seminal Spaghetti Western trilogy late in 2024, and while For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly appear on the list, the review for the first entry in the trilogy, A Fistful Of Dollars was published on 1 November 2024. A mere two percentage points separate the three films, such is the quality of Leone's trilogy.
This is the fourth year I have produced a list of the Top 10 films I have watched in a year, and no director has appeared on all four annual lists. The Coen Brothers, however, have appeared in three of the four lists, with Fargo, Miller's Crossing, No Country For Old Men and now Blood Simple.
I attended a screening of Blood Simple as part of The Glasgow Film Theatre's Coen Brothers of the Month programme back in January, where I was reminded "how damn good Blood Simple is." Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend as many of the Coen Brothers of the Month screenings as I would like because of personal commitments; otherwise, I suspect a number of the brothers' other films may have made the list.
I have also compiled a Top 10 list of films released in 2025 that I have reviewed.
