Review.

The 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider is beyond disappointing.

Anyone who has ever played the Tomb Raider video game will surely know that Lara Croft is badass. Yet Alicia Vikander portrays Lara as a struggling, cash-strapped, courier, unwilling to accept her family's wealth. There's an air of implausibility to this spurious position reminiscent of Pulp's 'Common People' - "Cause when you're laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall, if you called your dad he could stop it all."

As the storyline develops [for lack of a better word] Croft's transition to bow and arrow wielding, heroine capable of eliminating a team of hardened mercenaries is even more unbelievable. Alicia Vikander is undoubtedly a talented actress (The Danish Girl, The Light Between Oceans and Blue Bayou) and I'm surprised that she failed to deliver a sexy and sassy Lara Croft, as she stole the show as Gaby Teller, the Hepburnesque car mechanic in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Instead Vikander's version of Lara Croft is bland and lacklustre.

If adventure has a name, it's Indiana Jones...not Lara Croft, at least on the evidence of this offering.
