Review.

The premise of Get Out has been done before: A young black man (Daniel Kaluuya) meets the parents of his white girlfriend (Allison Williams) for the very first time. But Get Out is no Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? Instead, first-time director, Jordan Peele presents an intelligent, thought-provoking critique of race relations in the guise of an edge-of-your-seat horror film.

There's a wonderfully understated performance from the main lead, Daniel Kaluuya. His character, Chris endures much of the benevolent racism with a smile that suggests years of having to put up with this nonsense.

From the outset, Peele’s vision is clear: Get Out should be contemporary, creepy and unsettling. He succeeds, with a remarkably assured end result for a directorial debut that makes Get Out a prospective candidate to join other classics of the social thriller genre, such as Rosemary's Baby, The Constant Gardener and Parasite.

As a result of Get Out, I'm now very much looking forward to Jordan Peele's next offering, Nope, scheduled for release in summer 2022.
