Over the course of this year, I have watched, and reviewed, 14 films released in 2025, two more than last year.
Below is the list of the Top 10 films I have watched this year.
- Sinners (78%)
- Nosferatu (77%)
- Train Dreams (75%)
- The Kingdom (72%)
- 28 Years Later (70%)
- Wake Up Dead Man, A Knives Out Mystery (67%)
- Ballerina (66%)
- Bugonia (66%)
- One Battle After Another (65%)
- The Brutalist (56%)
The four films that failed to make the Top 10 list are Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Nickel Boys, Superman and The Thursday Murder Club.
In previous years, the film that topped the annual list was a clear and outright winner - Dune: Part Two (89%), Oppenheimer (89%) and The Batman (90%) - but this year, the outcome was much closer. Only three percentage points separated Sinners (78%), Nosferatu (77%) and Train Dreams (75%). From these three films, my favourite film of 2025 will be crowned. Would the exquisite Train Dreams have garnered an extra couple of percentage points had I seen the film on the big screen, in the first instance?
I have also compiled a list of the Top 10 films I watched in 2025 irrespective of the release date.
